Let’s get this out of the way: “Why do your dice cost what they do?” If you stop thinking “dice” and start thinking “art” then a lot of the questions should naturally fall away. These are pieces of art captured in polyhedral resin form. Each design has to balance all of the elements of visual art such as composition, contrast, theme, emotion, colour harmony and theory. Through this lens it should become clear that I am primarily an artist. It just happens to be that my medium is functional and designed to be held and used. All of the above does not even cover the hours of work that go into finishing a set of dice so that when they leave my studio they have the legendary glass-like shine and gloss for which the craft has become known (the shiny little math rocks). I share this with you only to help you appreciate why these aren’t “just dice”. You are holding pieces of art in your hands. This is why hand-crafted dice are as expensive as they are. So, with all that said, I price my dice based on how much work it has taken to craft them to the high standards to which I hold myself. Some dice, such as my cloud dice for example, are relatively quick and simple to create. Some dice are much more involved and require many extra hours of handcraft (such as my dioramas, kintsugi or geodes). I hope all of this has helped you understand why you will often see higher prices being charged by dicemakers for the art we create. A lot of love, soul, time and energy goes into each and every set.
